Super G’s First Birthday

I’m going to have to do a follow-up post to this one because my Mom took the majority of the photos of G’s events so I don’t have much to post but I did want to share these two quick shots:

We attempted to have G’s party at the beach on Friday but alas the weather was temperamental so we moved everything to the complex pool and cabana, which ended up working out perfectly. The kids were able to play in the water and hop out whenever it started to rain. It was definitely warm enough that they would have been able to swim regardless of whether or not it was raining but I think it wasn’t as fun to swim without the sun. Ultimately I think the kids had fun and when it was time to pack up, we only had a 5-minute walk to get home. You can’t ask for more than that when the munchkins are ready to head out.

Saturday we performed G’s one-year ceremony, with our Little Man dressed in a traditional blue Ao Dai (pronounced Ao = OW and Dai = “Y-EYE” — the way it would sound if you were to put a “y” in front of the word “eye”). I’ll write more about the ceremony later once I have more photos but everything went off without a hitch and thanks to my Mom’s vacuum-packing skills, we were able to get some super-yummy-delicious goodies for the ceremony (with enough for leftovers that we’re just finishing off today).

I still can’t believe G’s a year old. I feel like it wasn’t so long ago that we were making multiple trips a day to the NICU and counting down the days until we could bring him home. He has made so much progress over the last year that I forget most days that he was a preemie. Time sure does fly. It makes me worry that I’m going to blink and he’s going to be off to college. Maybe it’s the anxiety of every parent, or maybe my crazy pregnancy hormones are making me more anxious than I need to be. Either way, the kids’ milestones always remind me how quickly they really do grow up and how important it is for us, as parents, to really be present and support them every step of the way.

Happy 1st Birthday Super G! We can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
