I had talked to my mom a few times last week, asking her what she was doing for Mother’s Day weekend and telling her all about my weekend plans. Little did she know, I was planning to hop a flight to come surprise her for Mother’s Day. My plan was to show up on her door step, then call her and chat for a few minutes before announcing that she had a surprise waiting at her front door. Well, that didn’t quite work out because she was in her office and saw me walk up to the door, but it was a fabulous surprise nonetheless. The reaction was priceless! And my grandmother who was awake, but still groggy, stood at the top of the stairs staring at me because she wasn’t sure if she was still asleep or if I was really standing there. Ha! I love it when surprises work out!
If you’re wondering where my kiddos were, they were with their Daddy for the day since I was only making a day trip.
Look! It’s Gracie!
Don’t mind me in my flip flops… I forgot to bring shoes. One of my grandmother’s cousins, who was the family doctor, passed away a few weeks ago. In the Buddhist (Vietnamese Buddhist anyway) tradition, a ceremony is held for the departed, every Sunday for 7 weeks. Then again at 100 days, and annually on the anniversary of the passing. Since it was a Sunday, I planned to attend. It was a beautiful ceremony.
This is me and my 94-year-old grandmother, who still gardens, travels internationally, pokes fun at people and is all around kick ass. I’d be lucky to be like her in 30 years, let alone 60.
Here’s a video of what the kids were up to while I was gone. G-man has a video too but I wasn’t able to upload it right.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the awesome mommies out there!
