So it’s official, our nanny’s last day will be Friday of next week. We knew it was coming. She has been vying for her real estate license and is trying to get her feet back into the business world. We knew when she got called back for her second interview that her departure was imminent. It didn’t make it any less painful. She’s been with us since S was 4 months old. The kids and I have gone on countless adventures with her and seen her nearly every weekday for the last 2 years. She’s saved my kids’ lives more than once and has grown to become like family.
We’re excited for her because we love to see her happy, but we’re also saddened because we know we won’t see her quite as often anymore. She’ll still babysit for us on occasion and I promised to text her often with updates, but she will be sorely missed. I haven’t told the kids yet… I plan to do so a few days before she leaves next week — it’s not going to be a fun conversation. 😦
So, having said all of that, we’ve been trying to go on plenty of adventures to new places where we haven’t yet been so we can experience them with her while she’s still with us! Yesterday we went to Mepkin Abbey, where Trappist monks cultivate mushrooms (!!) and the gardens are so green and the breeze so warm, I just wanted a hammock and a nap. We saw some turtles and a baby alligator and the kids took turns twirling in the grass. It was wonderful. Just the day we needed after a rough morning.
Today we went to Sunset Park where the kids chased down little crabs and collected seashells.
It was a beautiful day. We were happy to have spent it with our nanny but these last few adventures are definitely bittersweet.
